Lydia Mary Cotterell

Lydia is an illustrator, aspiring picture book maker and print designer based in England, UK.

Inspired by the natural world, picture books, folk art and ornithology, her work is rooted in handmade and more traditional processes, predominantly using collage and mixed media.

Lydia graduated with a Master's in Children's Book Illustration at Cambridge School of Art with a Distinction in 2022. Her background is in surface pattern and printed textiles and in 2015 she gained a BA(Hons) in Textiles in Practice from the Manchester School of Art.

In the academic year of 2022- 2023, Lydia was the Artist in Residence at Downside School, Somerset, UK. During this residency she curated and exhibited her first Solo exhibition 'Cut and Paste'.

Lydia was a shortlisted artist for the World Illustration Awards in 2022 for her project 'Let's find out about: Cormorants'.
